Welcome to Kindergarten 2014-2015

What a wonderful last week of school! The kids were busy this week, Fun Day on Wednesday, Acrobats and MedFlight on Thursday and then Field Trip to Slate Run Historical Farms on Friday! Check out the pics!
Next week June 1st......last full day! Practice for graduation.
Graduation on June 2nd....11:00 AM, please sign out your children after the ceremony.
I will miss all these little munchkins! They truly hold a special place in my heart! They have worked hard and have learned to read and write, learned number sense and math skills! They have learned to ask questions and be good friends. Kindergarten holds a special place in my heart, and it always will!
Next year I will be teaching LLI, reading intervention. I will still be part of the Kindergarten team, helping when possible and be there everyday to see all the smiling faces come in the building!
Thank you parents for all of your support....love you too!

Cannot believe the end of the year is almost upon us! What a glorious year I have had with your children! They have learned so much and Mrs. Gardner and I are so proud of them!
They have just finished their unit on the sun, moon and stars and now we are wrapping up our reading and writing workshop.
Next week is a busy schedule.....
Wednesday, May 27th......Fun Day at Pickaway, I have their shirts for the day. Please bring in sunscreen.
Friday, May 29th....Field Trip to Slate Run Farms....note went home today, all children ride the bus to the farms. Please bring sack lunch.
June 2nd....Graduation at 11:00!!!!!
Thank you to all of you....parents and grandparents who supported our year, we couldn't have come so far without you!!!!! Love you all!

Assessments are done! Back to teaching Guided Reading, new books home today. Yesterday I sent home a paperback Keep Book. These will be coming home as Guided Reading books too. The children may keep these to practice reading!
In Math we are learning more about sorting, how to graph and how to read a graph. Next week in math, we will review and practice adding and subtracting skills throughout the end of the year.
Writer's workshop papers went home yesterday, these are the papers from the past quarter. Please review these and see the improvement. We will continue interactive writing and writing workshop throughout the remainder of the year. We will be working on capitals, periods, details in writing and getting the actual letters a little smaller(for some of us).
Also, I would like to thank the PTO for their support in our classrooms. If you have the chance, please sign up and help for committees next year. They do so many things for our children!

We have been working on assessments that are required at this time. Reading and Math, everyone has been working hard! I have one more assessment this week, hopefully will be done by Tuesday and then new guided reading books on Wednesday throughout the remainder of the year!
I also want to thank our student teacher, Mrs. Egenreider! Her actual teaching time has come to an end, but she will be in and out of the classroom the next two weeks. She has done a wonderful job!!!

Oh my! The leprechaun was here today! Our room was trashed again by that tricky little guy! The children had so much fun, building traps, reading stories, writing about St. Patrick's day! What a wonderful time! Check out the pictures!
Next we will begin a unit on Fairy Tales, beginning with the three little pigs!

We are catching up with snow days and having our Dr. Seuss right to read activites this week. Check out the green eggs pictures coming soon. We are also integrating St. Patrick's Day stories within the next week. In math we will begin our unit on 3-D shapes and practice adding and subtracting skills.
In writer's workshop we are working on our class published book....how to be a kindergarten student. If you would like to order the due date is March 12 or 13th. Order sheets were sent home, if you need another please let me know!
New dates.........May 29th.....Field Trip to Slate Run Farms....we will need parent volunteers for this date.....tour starts at 10:00 AM on the farm and picnic following at the shelter area! June 2nd Kindergarten Graduation at 11:00 AM. More info will be sent home!

Thanks to all the parents who were able to come in or call for conferences! Also, thank you for sending in your children's valentines. We had a great party! I loved my valentines too and all the candy gifts!

Wow!!! It is so nice to be in school! What a start to 2015 with the weather. Just a reminder no school on MLK Day, January 19th.
Each child should be receiving new books in their book sacks and please continue to study the word cards.
Mrs. Egenrieder is taking over a couple of the reading groups and will begin running the calendar portion of the day next week. She is working very hard and doing great!
We are working on larger numbers in math , 11-20 and working on writing numbers 1-20 or beyond if able.
Please continue to count to 100(end of the year mark) and have fun reading together!
Bookmobile will be back in early Feb. If you would like send in books and I will hold until then.

I am back on line! We have a new home computer now and I can work on my web site! Thank you for being patient!
The Feast is tomorrow at 11:30 AM, come around 11 or 11:15 to help set up if you can. The teachers are providing dessert and drinks! We cannot wait to see what the children bring to share!
You may also sign your child out of school after the lunch if you would like.
No school until December 2nd....which is the first day of secret reader....sh....a surprise!
The children have been learning about the historical importance of Thanksgiving and about early life! In math we have covered numbers 1-10 and less than and greater than. We will begin addition in December!
Continue to read baggy books and work on word cards! No books home over the breaks. Happy Thanksgiving!

Grandparent's Day tomorrow and last day for Book Fair is also October 14th. Children may shop with grandparents if you would like. Grandparents will meet in the auditorium and then be dismissed to the classrooms. Hope to see everyone tomorrow!
Pumpkin Show break....October 15-17th....back to school on the 20th and that will be bookmobile day! Have fun!

Welcome to the Fall! The children have been learning about the change of seasons and weather in our science unit of study on Fall.
Great news.....we welcome to our classroom...Mrs. Kendra Egenrieder, a senior student from Ohio Christian University. She will be here two days a week teaching and learning about science and social studies methods. In January Mrs. Egenrieder will be completing her student teaching with us through the spring! We gladly welcome her this year!!!! Check out her picture on the picture tab!
Bookfair is here! Our shopping day will be Friday, October 10th. You may also shop after school or on Grandparent's Day. Please send in money in a labeled envelope if you want your children to purchase books.
Grandparent's Day is October 14th at 1:30 PM. We will have an activity in the class and refresments will be provided. Grandparent's are welcome to take the children home if parent's give permission.
Remember no school....October 15-17th!

The children had a blast during apple day today! Thank you for sending in the apples! The children test tasted each color of apple, made apple sauce, tasted apple sauce, graphed results of tastings and wrote about their day. We read more Johnny Appleseed books and read our last apple book. Please check out the pictures!
Bookmobile came today....please send in yellow for IF you want your child to participate in bookmobile....if you do not have one anymore, please send a note. Also, please remember to sign the bottom and have your child sign it too!
Thank you for volunteering for the classroom.....Volunteers will begin after Pumpkin Show, I will contact you if you expressed an interest....thank you!
We are beginning to learn about shapes in math. I sent home another chapter for extra practice, you do not need to send this in!
Reading time has begun! Please read nightly when I send the booksacks home, most days Monday through Thursday. Word rings will start after Pumpkin Show!

Thank you for putting lunch money in the red folder! The lunch ladies and I appreciate it! Also, don't forget to send in AM snacks IF you would like your child to have a snack, something quick and healthy, if possible! We have begun our math series and have been working on counting 1-5 and more! Let me know if you have any questions about the math packet you received last night! Great full week of school. The children are learning routines and procedures and teachers are working on required assessments. These assessments establish a base line for the children, no need to worry!
We have been having two recesses a day, one in the morning and one after lunch. Please encourage your children not to wear flip flops because of recess equipment saftey. Tennis shoes or back strapped sandals are great!
Also, please send in extra underwear and clothes in case of accidents, the office does not have enough clothes! Thank you so much, it does help the child not to feel embarrassed and we will still call you to to let you know! Thanks so much!
Curriculum update: Math-working on counting and learning to touch to count. We are learning a counting game and reading great number picture books! We have also started our math journals! This integrates writing and literature skills.
Wriitng: Working on adding details to a picture and telling about it....the first step in the writing process.
Reading: Learning the ABC's...names of letters and the sounds they make. Writing interactively and reading together.
Science and Social Studeis.....Studies Weekly, we have set up our class bird feeder for observations and learned about how heat changes popping corn!
I love this class and they are working so hard, thanks for all you do!

The First Day of School was wonderful! The kids worked hard and loved meeting new friends. They enjoyed playing in centers and learning how to work together and clean up!
The room is hot, so please send in water bottles and dress accordingly! Also, please send in a daily snack starting Monday. Also, if your child would like breakfast please send me a note. Thanks so much.

Open House today at 11:00 AM. Last day of Kindergarten camp today at 9:30! The children and staff have enjoyed getting to know each other and the students are learning the lay-out of the building. Most importantly we are all having fun!
Staggered start next week....we will give out reminder letters today for your child's day to come next week....August 19, 20 or 21st from 10:00 to 2:30. Please bring and pick up please no bus service for Kindergarten until August 22!

Kindergarten Camp will be this week, August 11-14th....9:30-11:30 AM. Drop off your child in the auditorium, we will have a sign in and sign out sheet for the parents or guardians to sign. We will have a light snack for them!
Open House....August 11th...11:00 Please bring class supplies with you. This will be the last part of camp, we will still have camp this day!
Looking forward to the beginning of this new year! I cannot wait to see the children!
